Fall

There is something about fall and the decay of nature, the transition from one season to another that inspires and supplies me with some of my most interesting source material. I no sooner get home from the August Handmade show and I'm sitting down to design for the February show. At the moment I'm looking at shapes of old African shields as inspiration for earrings and pendants. The linear concentric patterns of Aboriginal  

 

 

This is a long process for me. All year long I have a lazy susan full of ideas past and present spinning in my brain. Many ideas don't come to fruition. They live on the "to be continued" part of my desk for the next season; piles of stones, images of inspiration, cast pieces  - all vestiges of incomplete ideas. Worn surfaces and shapes inspired by leaves, gourds and pods inspire my irregular silhouettes. creating the transition from this season to the next.
